Police are searching for two unidentified people they believe ripped off
a classic oil painting of Clark Lake.

At least one person broke into the Clark Lake Community Center on Aug. 2
and ripped the 8-by-4-foot canvas painting from its frame.

The painting was originally given to the H.S. Reynolds family as a gift
in 1932. The Reynolds family donated the painting, passed down through
generations, to the community center in 2002. The painting depicts a map
of Clark Lake and the surrounding area.

The price of the painting is unknown, but the Reynolds family is
offering $1,000 for its return or information leading to the arrest and
conviction of anyone involved.

"The value to the family is priceless," Columbia Township police Chief
David Elwell said.

A suspicious vehicle, a blue and white full-sized van, with two men
inside was seen in the area around the time of the theft. Anyone with
information is asked to call the Columbia Township Police Department at
592-3122.

Flip Reynolds said he wants the painting returned so that "people can
see some of the history of Clark Lake, some of the old families that
were there."

"It's a treasure," he said.
