Artworks stolen from Glasgow home

Strathclyde Police have appealed for information following the theft of 17
paintings from a property in Glasgow's west end.

The paintings, one of which is thought to be worth a four-figure sum, were
stolen from the house in Hamiltonpark Avenue sometime in the past six
months.

All had been kept in a storage room but the owner discovered they were
missing when he checked on them on 29 June.

There were no obvious signs of forced entry, police said.

Of the 17 paintings, 12 were small engravings of French women in
period-style clothing; two were etchings of Glasgow scenes and one is a
farmyard scene signed by the artist Davies.

Gold frame

The painting which is thought to be worth a four-figure sum of money is by
the artist GB Lhermite and is in a gold frame.

It depicts a country scene with a horse and cart standing in water and is
thought to date back to the early 1800s.

Constable Daniel Crilley from Maryhill police office said: "I would appeal
to anyone who knows anything about these paintings or who has been
approached by someone selling paintings fitting these descriptions.

"Not only are they valuable in price, but they hold real sentimental value
to the owner who is naturally upset at this loss."
