Sometime during the night of Friday, June 2, someone stole this sculpture
of a bear which was chained down to the sculptor's mailbox at 39 Holbrook
Rd. in Seymour.

Seymour - Some people will steal anything.

Imagine working on something for months; something totally original and
unique, only to have it stolen right out of your own front yard.

That is exactly what happened to sculptor/artist Tim Bonney.

Sometime during the night of Friday, June 2, unknown person or persons stole
from his front yard a sculpture of a bear which was chained down to his
mailbox.

The stolen statue, a carved wooden bear wearing a painted-on New York
Yankees jersey, was for sale by the owner, and displayed for all to see who
drive by his house at 39 Holbrook Rd.

"Maybe a New York Yankees fan got a little greedy," Mr. Bonney said. "It was
even chained down. It's hard to believe someone would do such a thing."

The Seymour sculptor with more than 30 years experience as an artist told
Voices that the stolen item in question is not to be confused with a similar
statue of a bear, this one black in color rather than brown, sold to
residents of Derby.

Although there is no reward offered, the owner hopes someone who may have
witnessed the burglary that night will come forward with information on the
theft.

"It really is disheartening to loose something you've worked so hard on in
this way," Mr. Bonney said.

"I've kept sculptures out there before and nothing like this has ever
happened."
