FORT DAVIS, Texas - Authorities arrested a suspect in connection with the
theft of artifacts from Fort Davis and believe he was responsible for
stealing antique weapons from other sites, officials said.

The identity of the man, also a suspect in robberies at two other Brewster
County sites, was not immediately available after his arrest Wednesday, the
Odessa American reported.

Fort Davis Historical Site superintendent Chuck Hunt said a second man was
also implicated in the thefts but "has been really cooperative with the
National Park special agents."

The Fort Davis artifacts - including several pistols, five revolvers and a
knife dating to the 1880s - were stolen in April and recovered Tuesday.

But Hunt said the men were also considered suspects in robberies at two
remote West Texas tourist sites - the Hallie Stillwell Museum and Lajitas
Resort. Items recently stolen from those locations included an antique
rifle, pistol and knife, the newspaper reported.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller said charges against the two men were
pending, according to the newspaper.
