Art Thief Sentenced For Escaping

 A notorious art thief has had two-and-a-half years added to his sentence
for escaping from jail.

Anthony Ricardo Sannd was on the run for about a month after taking off from
a work party at Rangipo Prison in February.

He had been serving a lengthy jail term for crimes including the
high-profile theft of a $2 million painting by James Tissot from the
Auckland Art Gallery in 1998.

At Pukekohe District Court yesterday, the judge ordered the
two-and-a-half-year penalty for the escape be served after he has completed
his current time.
