Community mural stolen by vandals

A mural created by volunteers to decorate a Somerset underpass has been
stolen by vandals.

The artwork, in the subway beneath Farm Road, Street, was painted by the
community in March as part of Avon and Somerset Police's Operation
Relentless.

But overnight on 11 and 12 May, thieves unscrewed the metal bolts which held
it in place and made off with the panels.

"These works of art have little monetary value but mean a lot to local
people," said Councillor David Pipes.

"Stealing them won't benefit the thief but will deprive the people of Street
of something they enjoy.

"It's very sad that a community effort to enhance an otherwise dull
underpass is seen as 'fair game' for vandalism and theft."

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Avon and
Somerset Police.
