CBI to Offer Reward in Museum Theft Case
Patna: November 11, 2006

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths, on Friday, inspected Patna
Museum hoping to discover any new clue that may help them crack the case
involving theft of 18 ancient relics valued at several crore rupees from the
museum nearly a month ago.

Sources said the CBI is readying to offer a cash reward of Rs. 2 lakh to
anyone whose tips lead to the recovery of the idols and arrest of the
thieves." The official announcement to this effect could be coming very
soon, officials said.

Pictures of the stolen idols along with the reward amount would be released
in all states and many foreign nations as well, they said.

On September 26, burglars, possibly with the help from some insider, broke
open the window on the second floor and stole 18 rare Buddha and Mahavir
statues belonging to the Pala era.

On September 30,, officials from the Fingerprint Bureau combed the area and
collected several suspicious fingerprints. The exercise, however, failed to
bring any result forcing the state government to seek CBI help in the case.
