Glass Museum project stalled
Restoration of the Andersen House, the future home of Redlands American and
European Contemporary Glass Museum has been put on hold. Moving the
two-story house, lot preparation, exterior restoration, and unexpected costs
depleted the $200,000 construction loan budgeted for the Relocation and
Restoration project.
Fortunately, the Historical Glass Museum Foundation has received pledges to
paint the exterior, and furnish wallboard for the museum's interior.
Unfortunately, the museum does not have $2,000 to purchase insulation
materials. Insulation of the museum's walls is necessary before drywall can
be installed.
Hands On Inland Empire, a program of Inland Empire United Way, has
volunteered to provide guidance and installation of the insulation and
wallboard once the HGMF has the materials. Frank Herendeen, HGMF president,
is asking for community support to help secure the funds need to complete
the interior walls of the Victorian House.
The recent theft of $12,000 - $20,000 glass from a public storage unit, cost
the museum the loss of money that was earmarked to complete the Restoration
Project. It is important that the restoration of the house be completed as
soon as possible to deter vandals from breaking windows.
The Historical Glass Museum will hold its annual Antique and Glass Parking
Lot Sale, at the present museum Saturday, Dec. 9 to help raise funds.
Donations to may be sent to HGMF, P.O. Box 921, Redlands, CA 92373.
