THIEVES who have preyed on Melbourne's Aboriginal art dealers for the past
two years have struck again.
Two burglars struck at Kimberley Art in Flinders Lane in the city and
another in Armadale in the past week.
The thieves escaped with valuable artworks both times.
It is estimated the total value of artworks they have stolen since their
spree began in December 2005 is now more than $500,000.
It is believed the men, who wear masks, got into one gallery by smashing the
front window.
That was the same method of entry used in other thefts.
The pair struck three times in January and February this year at High on Art
in Armadale, the Aboriginal Gallery of Dreamings in Bourke St, city, and
Aboriginal Art Galleries of Australia in Spring St.
High on Art was also burgled in 2005 and 2006.
Police earlier this year warned art dealers to watch for anyone trying to
sell Aboriginal artwork.
