State library evacuated after transformer blows

The Tennessee State Library and Archives, 403 7th Ave N, was evacuated this
afternoon after an underground transformer blew, fire officials said.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. when two underground transformers went
out, including one that exploded, according to Nashville Fire District Chief
Charles Shannon.

Everyone was ordered to leave the building, but no one was injured, Shannon
said. Shannon said he expected employees to return to the building shortly,
but TSLA archivist David Sowell wrote in an e-mail to The Tennessean that he
and all other employees were sent home at 2:30 p.m.

There was no electricity in the building as of 4 p.m., Sowell said, and NES
officials told him there might not be any power in the building until
tomorrow.
