LITITZ, Pa - A $499 oil painting was stolen during Saturday's Lititz Art
Show held in Lititz Springs Park, police said.
The artist, Gladys Zeiset, about age 60, of New Holland, is "very upset"
about the theft, said Lititz police Sgt. Kerry Nye.
The stolen painting is of "a basket with cascading pastel flowers." It
measures about 28 by 34 inches and was in a brown wooden frame with
rose-colored detail.
This was Zeiset's third art show featuring her own paintings, police said.
Zeiset discovered it was missing at about 4:45 p.m. after she briefly left
her booth to help her husband load their vehicle.
Police said the woman asked her husband: "Did you pack this yet?" When he
replied no, she realized the painting probably had been stolen.
The artist reported the theft to police on Wednesday after checking with art
show officials about liability issues. Anyone with information about the
theft is asked to contact Lititz police at 626-6393.
In other police incidents:
. Charges have been filed against a 45-year-old a man who jumped out of
bushes at an ex-girlfriend's home in Manheim and slapped two friends of the
woman, Manheim police said.
Sgt. Ed Geib charged James R. Hanna, of 1953 Wisegarver Road, Manheim, with
loitering-prowling at night, simple assault, burglary and harassment from
the July 22 incidents.
A 41-year-old woman brought some friends back to her home at 169 N. Main
St., Manheim, after they got off work late at night, police said. The group
was in the back yard when Hanna "jumped out of bushes" at about 3:05 a.m.
Manheim Police Chief Barry Weidman said.
Hanna got into a confrontation with two men who were in the yard and
allegedly slapped them in the face. He then allegedly entered the woman's
home through a back door, but she pushed him out, Weidman said.
Hanna fled from the property, but he was later found and charged, police
said.
. Manheim police also have charged Floyd R. Wheeler, 33, of 45 N. Wolf St.,
Manheim, with burglary and criminal attempt to commit burglary.
Police said Wheeler allegedly entered an apartment at 122 E. High St,
Manhiem, the morning of July 14 and stole stereo equipment and a 19-inch
television having a total value of $329.
. Lancaster state police said Douglas Alfred Wilson, 46, of Oxford, has been
charged with making a false report about a sexual assault that allegedly
never happened.
Wilson dialed 911 on May 15 and reported a sexual assault in progress at a
home in the first block of Puseyville Road in East Drumore Township, Trooper
Timothy J. Connolly said.
Troopers responded to the home where they found a girlfriend of Wilson. She
had not been harmed, was not in danger, and had been arguing with Wilson on
the phone the previous evening, Connolly said.
Police determined the sexual-assault report was false and obtained the 911
recordings. Wilson has been charged with false reports to law enforcement
authorities. Connolly said.
. East Lampeter Township police arrested Tyrone Rankins, 33,of the 300
block of East Filbert Street, early today on charges of receiving stolen
property and giving false identification to police.
Rankins was driving a 2004 Suzuki sport-utility vehicle that Officer Matt
Hess stopped at 2:49 a.m. in the 2300 block of Lincoln Highway East, near
the Canadiana Motel, police said.
The vehcle belonged to Kathleen Brader, Lancaster, and had been reported
stolen Tuesday from near the Lancaster YMCA on North Queen Street, police
said.
Police said Rankins gave a false name and told police he had borrowed the
vehicle from a friend.
