Army could get medal pay-out
Dec 11, 2007 12:28 PM

The army may be in line for a big insurance payment over the break-in theft
of precious medals from the Waiouru Army Museum.

Museum management is meeting insurance assessors on Tuesday to discuss the
theft of 96 medals, including nine victoria crosses.

It is estimated the collection is worth millions of dollars, though the
medals themselves are irreplaceable and it is not yet clear how much they
are insured for.

The museum reopened on Tuesday morning, after police completed their lengthy
scene examination.

Around 80 primary school students spent the morning sitting outside the
museum waiting for it to reopen.

Museum Director Raymond Seymour says there is still plenty of history for
the public to view.
