The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, victim 17 years ago to an unsolved 
theft of 13 pieces of priceless artwork, is applauding what could be a 
new chapter in the case - word of a new grand jury investigation.

Museum officials said they are "encouraged that the FBI and the U.S. 
Attorney's Office continue to view this case as a priority."

An FBI spokeswoman declined comment. Assistant United States Attorneys 
Brian Kelly and Ray Farquhar currently lead the Gardner case, but would 
not confirm nor deny the existence of a grand jury.

At least two people dressed as police officers entered the museum in the 
early hours of March 18, 1990. The thieves tied up security guards and 
removed 13 artworks from the Gardner Museum collection - in some cases 
cutting paintings free of frames.

The Gardner Museum is offering $5 million for information leading to the 
return of the stolen art.
