Description:
The Director of Protection Services is responsible for the development and management of the security operations of the Museum. The Director of Protection Services as a member of the senior staff reports to the Museum Director and takes leadership in maintaining and increasing the Museums security to protect the buildings, collection, staff members and visitors. The Director of Protection Services collaborates with other departments to increase security standards in a mutually productive manner. Responsibilities include leading and motivating the Museums protection services department and training, scheduling and supervising all security employees. The Director will oversee contractors and other third parties who support the Museums security systems; act as the Museum representative to public agencies; maintain a close relationship with Town, State and Federal fire and law enforcement agencies; work with development staff to identify and pursue grants to improve secur
ity;!
review and improve existing security policies; work with other Museum staff on a disaster preparedness plan; provide security risk assessments; and serve as the auditor for security issues. Must be prepared to respond immediately to all emergencies, 24 hours per day and have experience conducting investigations.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree, preferably in related area. Five years of supervisory security experience including personnel management. Must have experience that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of security systems, standards and equipment. Experience developing a positive and productive team and an ability to work with other members of the senior staff are essential. Must be willing to work when needed which may be at night, during the evening, on a weekend or a long shift. Ability to take direction from Museum curators and conservators in certain situations. Provide leadership as the safety officer of the Museum. First Aid and CPR certification preferable. High degree of computer literacy, knowledge of technology and electronic security systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution and the ability to foster effective working relationships at all levels of the organization. Must handle confidential matters ap

ropriately. Ability to develop and monitor budgets. Ability to represent the Museum to the public. Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive and collaborative attitude in stressful situations. Must be physically fit and agile. Must have visual and auditory acuity to perform the requirements of the position. Must be able to climb stairs and lift and carry up to 60 lbs. occasionally. Must have valid drivers license. Employment contingent upon completion of a successful background check.
