War medals are stolen in burglary
Medals from World War I and II were among property stolen in a burglary at
the home of an 87-year-old blind woman.

The medals, a Distinguished Service Order and Distinguished Service Cross,
were awarded to the woman's late husband and his father.

Police said pictures and silverware were also stolen from the house in
Bowesden Lane, Shorne, near Gravesend.

"The victim is very brave but distressed, especially by the loss of the
medals," said Det Insp John Sutton.

The woman was asleep in bed during the burglary, in the early hours of
Wednesday morning.

Det Insp Sutton said it was unclear how much the stolen items were worth,
and details of the paintings and silverware that had been taken were
sketchy.

Police believe the occupants of a blue Volvo estate who called at the house
on Tuesday may be connected with the robbery.
