Man sentenced for art theft
2/20/07
One of the men charged with stealing three Ramon Santiago paintings worth more than $31,000 was sentenced Tuesday.
Vincent Paone of Webster pleaded guilty to second degree burglary and grand larceny. He was sentenced to six years in prison for the burglary charge and three and half to seven years for the grand larceny. Since he'll serve the sentences consecutively, he'll have to spend at least six years behind bars.
Paone is a two-time felony offender, so the judge gave him a harsher punishment.
The paintings were stolen from a frame shop in Webster in late October and early November.
Thomas Gilbert and Rochester lawyer John West have also been charged in the case. Paone agreed to plead guilty so he would not have to testify against West at his trial. Gilbert has already pleaded guilty but has not been sentenced yet, he will testify against West.
