Police are investigating the theft of a $15,000 statue from a Naples
condominium over the New Year's weekend.
According to police reports:
Patti Gerstenmaier, 70, on Monday morning called police to tell them that
the 18-inch tall statue by the Russian-born artist, Erte, was missing from
her Gulf Shore Boulevard condominium apartment.
She said the statue was last seen in its place in the living room a few days
before.
During the past few years, several bronze lawn sculptures have been stolen
from front lawns in Naples.
This case is different because the sculpture was stolen from inside the
home, said police Deputy Chief Jim Slapp.
He said there were no signs of forced entry into Gerstenmaier's home.
Slapp said the investigation is continuing, but there are no suspects at
this time.
