154 million yen pilfered in art heist
NARA (Kyodo) Twenty-three works of art estimated to be worth about 153.6
million yen have been stolen from Yamato Gyokusenkaku museum in Sakurai,
Nara Prefecture, police said Wednesday.

The stolen works include 13 scroll paintings by Taikan Yokoyama (1868-1958)
and Gyokudo Kawai (1873-1957), and two plates, three vases and a water
pitcher made by ceramic artist Kenkichi Tomimoto.

The museum was closed and an employee locked the doors around 4:20 p.m.
Tuesday, according to police.
