Robbers raid replica bank

Robbers raided a replica bank at Telford's Blists Hill museum injuring a
member of staff, police said today. Two men entered the Victorian mock-up of
a Lloyds Bank branch in Ironbridge, at around 3.05pm yesterday.

They jumped over a counter in the bank at the tourist attraction, which was
open to visitors at the time, and one of the men pushed a male staff member
backwards, causing him to fall and hit his head.

Police said an unspecified sum of money was then stolen from the cash
drawer.

Both offenders left the building through the main entrance and police
believe they left the scene on foot.

The member of staff, who is in his 50s, was taken to the Princess Royal
Hospital with a bump to the head.

Paul Gossage, head of marketing at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, said
the staff member had worked in a real-life bank and was trained how to act
during a robbery.

Mr Gossage said: "The incident was over very quickly and there were no
visitors involved.

"Tens or hundreds of pounds were stolen from the till. The bank is very much
along the lines of a high street store in terms of the cash held on the
premises, not a bank in the traditional sense."

He added that the incident was caught on CCTV.

The robbery comes less than three months after a similar raid at the bank,
where two men in balaclavas threatened staff with a hammer before fleeing
with cash.
