*Professional feel to Moruya theft*
POLICE are seeking any information after up to $40,000 in rare and
unique wines, artworks and home furnishings were stolen from a Moruya
Heads holiday home.
Investigating officers say the home appears to have been targeted by
professionals, who picked the most valuable items amongst similarly
expensive-looking items.
The break-in occurred in the 10 days up to Tuesday, the intruders
forcing a rear door to gain entry.
Items stolen included more than 10 authentic Persian carpets, unusual
paintings and prints, and wall hangings from Asia and the Middle East.
Also stolen were high quality electrical goods, sporting goods, imported
doonas and luxurious bedding, and many bottles of expensive wine. The
thieves even took several heavy Balinese pots.
"So far the value is $30,000 to $40,000, but there's also the personal
value because many of these things are irreplaceable," said Senior
Constable Craig Trevallion.
"That's not the stuff that is normally stolen - cash and electrical
goods are normally what goes."
A large quantity of items were taken, meaning at least two people and a
large vehicle were involved.
A doorknock of neighbours yielded no leads; the neighbouring house is
also a holiday home.
Anyone who hears of anyone boasting of the theft or offloading the
items, or has any other information, is asked to call Moruya Police
Station on 4474 2444.
