Quilt Theft
Harrisonburg, Va.

A quilt on display at the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg was stolen
Thursday night.

The museum is hosting a display of Native American-made quilts called To
Honor and Comfort. The display was organized several years ago as a joint
operation between the Smithsonian and Michigan State University.

The stolen quilt, called Daybreak/Dawn, was made by Charlie and Julia
Grinell of North Dakota.

The quilt has traveled all over the country on tour, including places like
New York. However, Joan Knight, the museum director, says this is the first
time anything has happened to any of the quilts in the exhibit since it was
formed.

Knight is waiting to hear from MSU regarding the value of the stolen quilt.
