Santiago, Chile (AHN) - An estimated 4,000 books stolen from Peru's national library some 120 years ago, or during the Pacific War, was returned by Chile to the South American country.
BBC News reported the return of the 3,778 books is seen to improve the relations between the two countries whose relations have been tense for years.
The director of Libraries, Archives and Museum of Chile said the returning of the books is an indication of commitment to improving the relationships between Chile and Peru.
The books, written in Spanish, French, Greek, and Latin, weigh 5,500 lbs (2,500 kg) and date back to the 16th century, BBC News added.
According to www.cia.gov, among Peru's trans-national issues are the rejection of Chile and Ecuador of its November 2005 unilateral legislation, which proposes to shift the axis of their maritime boundaries along the parallels of latitude to Peru's favor, and organized illegal drugs operation in Colombia that have entered Peru's shared border; and Peru's rejection of Bolivia's claim restoring maritime entry through a sovereign gateway through Chile along the borders of Peru.
Located in Western South America, Chile sits between Chile and Ecuador
