SUN SCROLL on Tottenham Marshes before its theft
A SCULPTOR is "devastated" that a second public work of art she created has
been stolen.
Anita Rivera is suffering a double blow after it emerged that her piece,
called Sun Scroll, has been taken from Tottenham Marshes.
She has found it particularly upsetting as the work - which cost £20,000 to
create and install - was devised with the help of 60 Haringey children.
Ms Rivera, 54, who lives in Tottenham, said: "I have been really upset about
this.
"We did some really great work with schoolchildren on the project and
personally I think I achieved something with the work that I hadn't before,
in terms of the discipline and effort I put in to make everything by hand.
"For a lot of the kids who we took down to the marshes, they had never been
there before. It had been a revelation for some of them and they produced
some lovely poetry on their experiences."
Last year, Ms Rivera saw six metal silhouettes of schoolchildren stolen from
Park Lane, Tottenham, which had a value of £10,000.
She added: "I hope someone in a scrap metal yard will recognise the work and
realise that it is something special before it is melted down.
"I hope that there will be a positive outcome as I don't believe that
thieves should be allowed to succeed in destroying our legacy, heritage and
culture for profit.
