Announcing: An IFAR Evening -- Thursday, April 17, 2008 6:00 - 8:30 P.M.

Topic: The Who, What, Why, and How of the Cultural Property Advisory
Committee (CPAC)

Location: New York City -- the National Academy (5 East 89th Street,
Manhattan)

The Cultural Property Advisory Committee is responsible for reviewing
requests by foreign goverments to restrict the import into the U.S. of
certain categories of their cultural property "in jeopardy of pillage" and
then recommending a course of action to the U.S. President (or, in practice,
the State Department). This is a rare opportunity to learn more about this
important committee from current and former CPAC members, including the
current Chairman and two previous Chairmen. All 6 speakers are current or
past CPAC members. We have tried to organize a balanced, stimulating, and
educational program, which, like all our programs, will be open to q&a at
the end.

Speakers:

Kate Fitz Gibbon, Editor, Who Owns the Past? CPAC Member (2000-2003)

Patty Gerstenblith, Professor & Director, Program in Cultural Heritage Law,
DePaul Univ., CPAC Member (2000-2003)
