Fire damages city's main library

A fire has damaged Bristol Central Library, which will now be closed for
several days.
The fire is believed to have damaged an open plan office used by staff on
the lower ground floor. Other areas are not thought to have been badly
affected.
The blaze, at the building near College Green, started in the early hours of
Saturday morning.
Janet Bremner, head of library services, said: "We apologise to our
customers for this inconvenience."
"But as I am sure they will understand, it is not possible to open the
library while the fire service are still in the building investigating the
fire," she added.
"Early signs are that the damage is not extensive but we will review the
situation on Sunday and Monday and issue further updates when further
information is available."
The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
