Stolen crocodile statue returned to france

A valuable statue which was stolen from an art gallery in Paris ten years
ago is to be returned to the French authorities after it was found in
Doncaster.

The bronze statue of a crocodile devouring an antelope, which is worth more
than £20,000, was discovered in the Auction Rooms in Doncaster town centre
in September 2005.

The work of art, by 17th century sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye, which was
stolen in 1998 during a £1.5m burglary, will now be handed back to the
authorities by Doncaster Police.
