Major paintings stolen in Zurich raid

Armed robbers have stolen paintings by Cezanne, Degas, Van Gogh and Monet worth more than 100 million Swiss francs (£47 million) from a lakeside museum in Zurich, police said today.

More details of the raid, which happened yesterday afternoon, are to be given at a press conference later today.

The theft comes just days after thieves stole two paintings by Pablo Picasso worth $4.5 million from a cultural centre in eastern Switzerland.
