Washington Co. library patron arrested after bomb threat
A disgruntled library patron was arrested Thursday afternoon after she made
a false bomb threat at the Washington County Free Library's downtown
Hagerstown branch, the Hagerstown City Fire Marshal's office said in a news
release.
Toyna Michelle Butts, 18, of Dual Place in Hagerstown, told investigators
she was upset after receiving notices from the library on past-due items,
fire officials said.
Staff said Butts walked into the library's 100 S. Potomac Street building at
about 1:40 p.m. and announced there was a bomb in the building, according to
fire officials.
agerstown Police and Hagerstown City Fire Marshal's Office officials
searched the library for a device, but none was located, fire officials
said.
Library staff said the building was not evacuated during the search.
During the investigation, Butts was found in the area and identified based
on the staff's description, fire officials said.
She was charged with making a false statement of a destructive device, they
said.
Butts was being held Thursday evening on $3,500 bond at the Washington
County Detention Center, according to a spokesman there.
